We recently held our first Annual Welding Competition at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center. A welding competition like this was merely an idea a year ago but with the help of our partners at SICTC, this year’s competition was a huge success!
Participants competed in one of three categories: Student, Apprentice, or Professional. With the help of our generous sponsors, Lincoln Electric and Evansville Welding Supply, we were able to award the top 3 winners in each category with prizes like welding gloves and caps, grinders, and the 1st place winners received a Lincoln welding bag kit! 🏆
Adam Nix, Vice President of Operations for Nix: This event holds importance considering many individuals in the trades are beginning to get older, so we want to be sure and reach the new generation with the trades and show them they do not have to go towards a 4 year degree if they do not feel it is right for them. We need those kids that have the skills and talent to enter the workforce right out of high school to continue to fill trade jobs, not only for Nix, but for the community.
Angela Kirlin, Director of Human Resources for Nix: The welding competition was a great way to bring in both new and seasoned talent under one roof for a morning of competitiveness and fun. It was really neat to hear some of the more tenured trades people talk to the next generation about tips and tricks and vice versa. The people in the trades have a real craft that made it awesome to watch everyone show off their skills!
We appreciate every participant that signed up and spent the morning showcasing your welding talent with us.
🗓️ Mark your calendars for next year’s competition on March 9th 2024!
We would love to see you there and stay tuned for the awesome prizes you could have the chance to win!
