Refurbishment of Damaged Tanker

A Case Study in Effective Repairs & Maintenance Work

Existing Challenge

Our Repairs & Maintenance team was tasked with refurbishing a damaged tanker. The tanker had suffered significant damage to its tank panels and required comprehensive repairs to restore it to a functional and aesthetically appealing state.

Approach and Solution

Inspection and Assessment: The Repairs & Maintenance team conducted a thorough inspection of the damaged tanker to identify all areas requiring repair. This assessment helped determine the scope of work and materials needed for the refurbishment.

Tank Panel Replacement: The team rolled and fabricated new tank panels to replace the damaged ones. These panels were then fully welded into position, ensuring a secure and watertight fit.

Catwalk and Pipe Work Installation: A new catwalk and pipe work were installed to enhance the functionality and safety of the tanker. The catwalk provided access for maintenance and inspection purposes, while the updated pipe work ensured the efficient flow of liquids.

Pressure Testing: After completing the repairs, our  team pressurized the tank to identify and rectify any potential leaks. This step ensured the vessel’s integrity and compliance with safety standards.

Coatings and Decal Application: Our Shop Coatings Team sandblasted the trailer to remove old paint and rust, creating a clean surface. A new paint job was applied to protect the tanker from corrosion and improve its visual appeal. Additionally, new decals were affixed, providing necessary labeling and branding.

Results and Benefits

The comprehensive repairs, including tank panel replacement, catwalk and pipe work installation, pressure testing, and coatings application, transformed the damaged tanker into a fully functional unit. The refurbishment work on the damaged tanker brings several benefits, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics. Here are a few key benefits resulting from this project:

Cost Savings: Refurbishing the damaged tanker can be a cost-effective solution compared to purchasing a new one. By addressing the specific areas of damage and conducting necessary repairs, the company can avoid the higher costs associated with acquiring a brand-new tanker.

Regulatory Compliance: The refurbishment work ensures that the tanker complies with industry standards and regulations. The repairs, pressure testing, and coatings application are performed with the aim of meeting safety and operational requirements, allowing the company to operate within legal boundaries and maintain a good standing with regulatory authorities.

Extended Lifespan: Through the replacement of damaged components and the application of new coatings, the refurbishment work extends the lifespan of the tanker. By addressing structural deficiencies and protecting the surface from corrosion, the tanker becomes more durable, reducing the need for frequent repairs or premature replacement.
